Electrician was gunned down for 18 pennyweight gold chain worth $170k – police

The Guyana Police Force says it is hunting two suspects in the gunning down of 19-year-old Joshua Denny who was robbed while on his way to work on Thursday morning in Mittelholzer Street Festival City, Georgetown.

In a report more than 24 hours after the incident occurred, the police said that the young electrician was robbed of his 18 pennyweight gold chain valued at $170,000 at around 06:30hrs.

According to the police, a witness said he heard two loud explosions suspected to be gunshots and he looked through a window and saw Denny standing on the street shouting he was shot.

The witness also saw a male running in a southern direction and then west on a cross street and joined a waiting motorcycle (registration number unknown) with a male and they both rode away in a western direction.

The witness told police that he saw the victim was bleeding from injuries to his chest and right hand. Denny died while undergoing surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The body was examined and two gunshot wounds were seen – one to his right upper chest and the other to his right upper hand at the back of the muscle area.  The body is presently lying at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

“Efforts were made to locate the suspects without success. Investigations are in progress,” police said.
