Brickdam fire: Initial fire service response was not effective – AG
With the fire still ripping through the almost entirely destroyed Brickdam Police Station in Georgetown, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall SC told the News Room that preliminary reports suggest the Guyana Fire Service did not initially respond “as they should have”.
The Minister said this while at the scene of the massive inferno. And as a result of this initial response, the Attorney General said that additional fire tenders had to be sent afterward to help extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters are still trying to get the blaze under control, however.
While firefighters were battling the front of the police station, the blaze was ravaging the back entrance and there were no visible fire tenders there. A GECOM Commissioner, Sase Gunraj, was there and could be heard lamenting the poor response of the fire service.
