Kelvin Gordon, 28, who was heavily intoxicated, was rescued from his burning house on Sunday. Gordon lived alone in a wooden one-story house in Kwakwani Park, Upper Berbice River.
Police Headquarters reported that a neighbour said he smelled smoke and upon investigating saw smoke emanating from Gordon’s house at around 10:00hrs.
The neighbour further told police that Gordon was on his steps in an intoxicated state and yelled ‘Oh Lord take my life.’
Persons managed to remove Gordon to safety and formed a bucket brigade, however, the fire quickly consumed the house and destroyed it completely.
When the police arrived at the scene, Gordon was unable to give information on the fire due to his drunken state.
As a result, he was detained for questioning as investigations continue.
