A Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara couple was awaken by two gunmen who reportedly beat them while demanding cash and jewellery in the wee hours of Saturday. Police Headquarters in a statement said the incident occurred sometime between 03:45hrs and 04:30hrs.
According to the police report, two men armed with handguns and a cutlass broke into the couple’s house and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.
Police said the 36-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife retired to bed at about 22:00hrs.
At about 03:45 hrs., they were awakened by one of the suspects who told them not move.
During the robbery, the gunmen taped the man’s mouth with duct tape and bounded his hands with straps.
One suspect then pointed a gun at the victims and demanded the items, while the other suspect kept watch at the door.
Police said one of the suspects then gunbutted the man to his head for him to say where the cash and jewellery were. The woman was then lashed to the back of her head with the cutlass.
The suspects also ransacked the couple’s house before escaping on foot.
