Sophia nurse arrested for illegal possession of gun

A 29-year-old nurse was arrested in ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown on Monday after police found an illegal Beretta handgun in her yard.

Police reported that a magazine and two live 9MM rounds were also discovered.

The News Room understands that the nurse is the girlfriend of an alleged murder suspect. At about 16:45hrs, a party of policemen went in search of the suspect at the nurse’s house.

“A search was conducted in her home, but nothing of evidential value was found. However, a search in the yard unearthed a black haversack (that) was found under a tree,” the police said.

The handgun and ammunition were found inside the bag.

The nurse was then questioned if she is the holder of a firearm licence to which she responded in the negative.

Police said she was arrested and escorted to Turkeyen Police Station where the firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged in her presence.

Investigations are ongoing.
