Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President, Michael Singh, has indicated that the federation is pooling its best talents to compete at the first AmeriCup in 3×3 history in Miami, scheduled November 12-14.

The best 3×3 national teams in the Americas will get a chance to compete for continental supremacy at the inaugural event, and Guyana is looking to make a considerable impression.

The federation was slated to host a local 3×3 tournament in September-October and Singh indicated those were shelved and they will select from both their overseas and local pool.

According to Singh, Guyana will field both male and female teams and they have gotten a commitment from Joy Adams, who is playing professionally in Spain.

They have commitments as well from Jada Mohan and others who will be encamped locally to “ensure we field the best team possible”, the President indicated.

Additionally, the male team will comprise two overseas and two local players and the options will come from Stanton Rose and Timothy Thompson, and a player from Guyana’s most successful 3×3 team–Pitbulls 3.0.

The female camp will be based on adapting the 3×3 skill sets, since the female ball is smaller, and to best prepare them since “we don’t them to go out and take a bashing as we have seen in female basketball recently, but we intended to go and make a good outing especially when we have a player like Joy Adams.”

In another section of the media, Singh confirmed that the GABF’s Youth and Women’s Leader, Sileena Arjune, will be the coordinator of the Men and Women’s 3×3 teams at the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup Championship in Florida.

The President said that while there will be some tough opponents, they are confident of putting up a strong showing.

As is the case for every FIBA 3×3 national team official competition, the event will feature the same number of Men and Women’s teams, who will play alternatively on the same court in front of the same fans.
