Twenty-six-year old Clarence Greene called ‘Molly’ was on Thursday remanded to prison for arson in relation to the fire that destroyed the Brickdam Police Station last Saturday.
Greene of Charlestown, Georgetown appeared before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on October 2, 2021, he unlawfully and maliciously set fire to the police station which was the property of the state.
Greene was also charged with armed robbery which alleged that on the same day in question at Water Street, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Chitrannie Ramkissoon of a $160,000 cellphone. He was not required to plea to that charge as well.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels objected to Greene being released on bail and asked that the charges remain indictable.
Green was represented by attorneys-at-law Ronald Daniel and Kiswana Jeffords. Jeffords made an application for bail and told the court that her client is the sole breadwinner for his family and his reputed wife is currently pregnant.
The attorney further told the court that her client is innocent and was threatened by the police to sign a confession statement.
The Chief Magistrate after considering the seriousness of the charges remanded Greene until October 28, 2021.
Meanwhile, as he exited the court on Thursday, Greene shouted to the media gathered outside that he is innocent of the charges.
“I would like for y’all to look into this matter serious because they trying to frame charge me…I didn’t do nothing like this.”
Greene is accused of setting fire to the Brickdam Police Station, which destroyed over 80 per cent of the building.
The fire has severely affected the operations of the Brickdam Police Station and a number of services were moved to St Stanislaus College.
