CANU nets over $4M in cocaine, ganja during operation at Providence
Two persons are in the custody of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) following the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine and foreign marijuana with a street value of over $4 million.
A release from CANU noted that ranks acted on information received and conducted a stop and search operation at Providence, East Bank Demerara on Friday.
They intercepted a motor lorry with drugs concealed among the cargo; a thorough search of the vehicle revealed 522 grams of cocaine and 5.866 Kgs of foreign cannabis hidden in cardboard boxes among other cargo.
The cocaine seized has a street value of $1,500,000 and the foreign marijuana has a street value of over $3,000,000.
“This operation is a part of CANU’s continued efforts to deter the flow of narcotics across Guyana,” CANU noted.
