Man, 21, among 10 COVID deaths; 229 new cases, 29 in ICU

Ten additional people have died from COVID-19 pushing Guyana’s total deaths to 835, the Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

The 10 deaths included five men and five women with the youngest being a 21-year-old man from Region Six (East Berbice, Corentyne) and the oldest a 90-year-old woman from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

All 10 persons were unvaccinated. The details on the latest fatalities are below:

It should be noted that five of those persons died on Saturday with the other five persons passing away during last week. This means that October’s death toll has increased to 38.

Meanwhile, 229 new infections were recorded from 1,890 tests putting Guyana’s total infections at 33, 566.

Those new cases were recorded in: Region One (11 cases), Region Two (19 cases), Region Three (48 cases), Region Four (80 cases), Region Five (nine cases), Region Six (33 cases), Region Seven (five cases), Region Nine (two cases) and Region 10 (22 cases).

Additionally, there are 29 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 159 people in institutional isolation, 3,4608 are in home isolation, and six people are in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, a total of 28,935 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
