Motorcyclist dies in accident with ret’d senior cop
Police are investigating an accident on the Meer Zorgen Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) which claimed the life of Esgar Esau – a 49-year-old motorcyclist of Goed Fortuin, WBD on Friday at around 14:10hrs.
A police release noted that Esau was riding motorcycle CH 7636 south along the eastern side of the road when he collided with motorcar PZZ 6015 – driven by Brian Joseph -a 59-year-old retired Assistant Commissioner of Police of Tuschen New Housing Scheme East Bank Essequibo.
Police said the senior cop was proceeding west along the southern side of the Harbour Bridge Road and was in the process of turning north at the T junction when his right side collided with the front of the motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the road and received injuries to his head and body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Notice of intended prosecution was served after a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver; no trace of alcohol was found in his breath content, the police said.
He was released on $100,000 station bail pending investigations.
