A 53-year-old man is hospitalised at the West Demerara Regional Hospital nursing injuries to his head and other parts of the body following an accident at New Road Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara on Saturday.

Police said Pooran Chatterpaul of Vreed-en-Hoop was hit by minibus BWW 9538 which is owned and driven by Ryan Barclay, 46, of Norton Street Wortmanville, Georgetown.

Police said Barclay was driving east along the road when Chatterpaul ran from north into the path of the minibus.

It is alleged that the bus driver swerved south to avoid a collision but despite his efforts, the front portion of the minibus collided with the pedestrian.

Chatterpaul was picked up in a conscious condition by the driver, placed into the minibus and taken to West Demerara Regional Hospital.

A notice of intended prosecution has been served on the driver of the minibus, after a breathalyzer test was conducted which analyzed he had .42% and .39% BAC micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

He remains in custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station assisting with further investigations.
