Whether you are naughty or nice, do Christmas right with Cata’s Christmas Shop, a brand new store offering all things Christmas from gifts to decorations and fun trinkets for everyone.

Cata’s Christmas Shop opened its doors to the public on Monday with a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony at its 17 Brickdam and Sendall Place location in Georgetown.

Owner and entrepreneur, 44-year-old Lana Melendez, said the idea behind the new venture was birthed from the desire to prepare for Christmas early, breaking that Guyanese tradition where decorations are sometimes put up at the last minute.

Open for business! The ceremonial ribbon-cutting exercise to officially commission the store

“Every year I always prepare early for Christmas and in Guyana, we are sometimes, not so prepped for Christmas. Christmas Eve night, we are decorating so I want to help people prepare, start Christmas in October or November so when December comes, you just enjoy it,” the entrepreneur stated.

“I just want people to have that Christmas feel when they walk in, for them to prepare early and then spend December enjoying the Christmas season with the family.”

The seasonal shop will cater to other annual observances

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-INVEST) Peter Ramsaroop, who witnessed the launch, noted that it was an exciting move and adds to the push that small businesses have on Guyana’s local economy.

“It is exciting because Christmas is around the corner and you come here and immediately get that Christmas feel.

“But what is important about this opening, is that it is another move for small businesses as small businesses are the backbone of any nation and to see a young entrepreneur be creative and add to the development of the local economy is exciting,” the GO-INVEST CEO remarked.

But though Christmas is currently the theme, the owner noted that as the season changes, so will the Cata’s Shop catering for other yearly celebrations, like Easter, Valentine’s Day and Halloween.
