Six more COVID deaths; 75 new cases, 33 in ICU

Six more persons died from COVID-19 taking Guyana’s overall death toll since March 2020 to 848, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday.

Of the six deaths, two were women and four were men with only one person being partially vaccinated. The others were all unvaccinated.

It should be noted that another death has been recorded for September; an 88-year-old man of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) who died on the 29th. This puts September’s death toll at 171 – the highest death toll recorded in a single month since the pandemic hit these shores.

October’s death toll has also increased to 50.

Additionally, 75 new infections were recorded from 775 PCR tests, increasing Guyana’s total infections to 33, 823 since the first case in March 2020.

Those cases were recorded in Region One (one case), Region Two (one case), Region Three (10 cases), Region Four (38 cases), Region Six (one case), Region Eight (two cases), Region Nine (three cases) and Region 10 (four cases).

Additionally, there are 33 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 139 people in institutional isolation, 3,480 are in home isolation, and three people are in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, a total of 29, 323 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
