Women robbed after leaving Ogle airport; suspect caught after crashing car
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the armed robbery of a 37-year-old businesswoman and a 20-year-old female on Monday afternoon.
A police report noted that the incident occurred at around 13:30hrs on the La Bonne Intention Public Road, East Coast Demerara shortly after the women left the Ogle Airport.
It is alleged that the two women stopped at a boutique and while still inside the vehicle, the suspect approached from the left side front door, opened it and pointed a gun at them.
The victims handed over an iPhone valued at $300,000; 75 grams of raw gold valued at $750,000; $5,000 cash, two handbags valued at $20,000 and $50,000 in cash.
Police said the suspect escaped in a silver Primo motorcar bearing registration # PMM 6951 which was parked in front of the victims’ vehicle. While reporting the matter to the police, one of the victims was tracking the suspect on another iPhone to which the police immediately responded.
The mobile patrol saw the suspect’s car at Industry, ECD and intercepted same at Industry Crown Dam after it had collided with a parked van. The suspect, who was the driver, disembarked with a handgun in his hand and started to run and threw the firearm alongside the drain.
The firearm was retrieved by the police; it was a silver Taurus .32 pistol and a magazine with one .32 round of ammunition and six 9mm rounds. A further search was conducted on the motorcar and the stolen articles were found.
The suspect was cautioned, arrested and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station. The investigation continues.
