A 65-year-old pensioner who the police identified only as Mahadeo was on Tuesday found dead in a drain at Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Police said Mahadeo is also from Parika Backdam, EBE.
Around 14:00hrs, an unknown caller reported that a body was seen lying motionless in a drain in the area causing a party of policemen to visit and remove the partly decomposed body with the assistance of residents.
The body was checked for marks of violence but none were seen, the police said.
The body was later identified by the man’s cousin, a 51-year-old male also of the same area.
He informed the police that Mahadeo was last seen on October 7, 2021, in a drunken state, walking down the Parika Backdam Access Road.
The body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
