Man driving through thick smoke injured in multiple vehicle collision


A rice farmer is currently hospitalised in a serious condition following a multiple vehicle collision on the Foulis, Public Road, West Coast Berbice in Region Five.

Injured is Rawl Bacchus of Catherine, East Coast Demerara. The News Room understands that the accident occurred when a rice field was on fire a few hours ago which resulted in thick smoke clouding the visibility of road users.

Based on the information provided by a resident, Bacchus was driving slowly on the road through the smoke when another car slammed into him from behind. As a result, Bacchus’ car hit a parked car in the middle of the road before pitching into a nearby trench.

The third car then collided with a truck.

As a result, Bacchus sustained severe injuries while several others received minor injuries. A resident said that the rice field is owned by a private citizen and that it is a norm for the rice field to be set on fire.
