Five more men die from COVID-19; 59 new cases

Five men between ages 34 and 79 years are Guyana’s latest COVID-19 deaths, the Ministry of Health said on Monday.

Those fatalities increase Guyana’s overall death toll to 875 since the first case on March 11, 2020. For the month of October, 76 persons have died so far.

The men died between October 07 and October 18 and hail from Regions Three (Essequibo Island-West Demerara) and Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

Three of them were unvaccinated, one partially vaccinated and the vaccination status of the other was unknown.

Meanwhile, another 59 individuals have been infected with the deadly virus. These new infections were recorded after 441 tests were conducted and this means that the number of confirmed infections Guyana has recorded overall has increased to 34, 514.

The new cases were recorded in: Region One (one case), Region Three (21 cases), Region Four (19 cases), Region Six (four cases), Region Seven (two cases) and Region 10 (12 cases).

Additionally, there are 24 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 127 people are in institutional isolation, 3,722 people are in home isolation and four people are in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, a total of 29,766 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
