Woman, 18, among two new COVID-19 deaths; 94 new cases

An unvaccinated 18-year-old woman from Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) is among the latest COVID-19 deaths, according to information from the Ministry of Health.

The woman reportedly died on October 19. The other additional COVID-19 fatality is a 50-year-old man, who is also from the region, and died on October 18. Earlier in the day, the News Room reported that the 50-year-old headmaster of the Mackenzie High school in Region 10, Haslyn Small, passed away then.

Those fatalities increase Guyana’s overall death toll to 877 since the first case on March 11, 2020. And, for the month of October, 78 persons have already died.

Meanwhile, another 94 individuals were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease COVID-19.These new infections were recorded after 1,588 tests were done. With these new cases, the total number of confirmed infections has increased to 34,608.

These new cases were recorded in: Region One (10 cases), Region Two (12 cases), Region Three (five cases), Region Four (35 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (23 cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Nine (one case) and Region 10 (one case)

Importantly, however, one of the new cases reported on Monday for Region Eight is now recorded in another region.

There are also 23 patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 118 people in institutional isolation, 3,512 people in home isolation and five people in institutional quarantine.

Meanwhile, a total of 30,078 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
