A 46-year-old businesswoman of No. 69 Village, Corentyne Berbice is nursing injuries to her hands after two armed men accosted her family during a robbery on Friday.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred around 12:23hrs.

Police said the businesswoman’s 23-year-old daughter was sitting inside the shop when two masked suspects entered, armed with handguns; they held her at gunpoint but she reportedly managed to escape into the street.

The police reported that the two suspects then went into the businesswoman’s home where she was sitting with a 29-year-old businessman and held them at gunpoint.

The victims were relieved of one gold bangle, one pair of gold earrings and $200,000 cash, police said.

Not satisfied, the gunmen demanded more cash and valuables and police said “one of them dealt the businesswoman several lashes on both of her hands with a gun.”

The suspects then escaped on foot.

Police were summoned to the scene and the businesswoman was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where she was seen by a doctor treated and sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
