Man, 54, dies from COVID-19; 100 new cases recorded

A 54-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is Guyana’s 894th COVID-19 death after he succumbed to the dreaded disease on October 22, the Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

The man was partially vaccinated, meaning he only received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.  His death increases October’s death toll to 95.

Meanwhile, 100 new infections were recorded from 1,323 PCR tests, increasing Guyana’s total infection rate to 34,977.

These new cases were recorded in: Region One (four cases), Region Two (15 cases), Region Three (seven cases), Region Four (44 cases), Region Five (11 cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Seven (three cases), Region Eight (four cases), Region Nine (one case) and Region 10 (three cases).

There are also 18 patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 106 people are in institutional isolation, 3,370 people in home isolation and six people in institutional quarantine.

Meanwhile, a total of 30,589 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
