Timehri Prison: cops find drugs, cellphones, improvised weapons


An early morning search conducted on three dormitories at the Timehri Prison on the East Bank of Demerara on Saturday unearthed a quantity of illicit items, Police Headquarters revealed.

The search took place between 06:00hrs and 08:30hrs by officers from the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service.

According to the report, they discovered a quantity of narcotics; two black Samsung cellular phones; one Hyundai cellular phone; five phone batteries; two phone casings; a Digicel SIM card; four phone chargers; a quantity of nails; a mirror; two two-way electrical points along with nine cigarette lighters, 11 improvised weapons, one kitchen knife, one pair of scissors and two earpieces.

The items were confiscated and police said that an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances under which the items entered the precinct of the prison.
