GABF gets $1M from KFC Guyana for AmeriCup 3×3 trip
- “We’re going there to compete”- President Singh
Beharry Holdings Inc., through KFC Guyana, on Monday delivered its sponsorship package to the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) as Guyana prepares to compete in the inaugural AmeriCup 3×3 Basketball tournament.
Men’s and Women’s teams will represent their countries in what will be a basketball festival from November 12-14 at Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida.
To ensure team Guyana’s participation in the tournament, KFC Guyana presented $1 million to president of the Federation Michael Singh at its Vlissengen Road location, as part its corporate social responsibility mandate.
While wishing the players and the Federation well, Pamella Manasseh of the Marketing Department of KFC Guyana, expressed gratitude to those who have supported the brand, thereby making the sponsorship a reality.
“Because without you we can’t do it,” Manaseeh said.
On the male side, Guyana will be represented by Timothy Thompson, Ryan Stephney, Nikolai Smith and Travis Burnett, while in the female championship, Spain-based Joy Adams, Petal Leacock, Kesann Charles and Jada Mohan will suit up for the country. Akeem Crandon and Stanton Rose are the male substitutes.
“With these complements we intend to put a good showing in Miami. We don’t want it to be a one-sided affair; we’re going there to compete. As you know the calibre of teams will be significant,” Singh pointed out.
In accepting the sponsorship, the GABF head labelled KFC Guyana a ‘core supporter’ of Basketball in Guyana.
“They’ve been very supportive on the youth level for a number of years,” he said.
“Organisations such as mine, especially when we’re trying to honour two international engagements per year- El Salvador earlier in April and making a tournament of this calibre in November- it’s always tough to put together a budget and honouring all the commitments of that budget. KFC today has assisted us tremendously and we promise to ensure we fly that KFC flag very high in Miami.”
