National Bodybuilders Darious Ramsammy and Nicholas Albert produced impressive performances at the Santo Domingo Open held in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

Ramsammy, competing in the Under-165 lbs category, struck gold but finished second in a close battle for the overall category, while Albert, in the Under-176 lbs class, copped silver.

Heading to the competition, Ramsammy’s main goal was to win the overall category to earn the prized International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Pro card.

Gold in the bag! Darious Ramsammy brought first in the Under-165 lbs category

In order to become an IFBB Pro, a bodybuilder must first earn their IFBB Pro Card. A bodybuilder looking to do this must first win a regional contest in his weight class.

In an invited comment, Ramsammy said it was a close contest for the overall title, but the bigger mass of the main rival went in the native’s favour.

Next on the agenda for Ramsammy will be Guyana’s Senior National Championships, slated for December 18, followed by an event in Aruba in January, where he will take another crack at winning the IFBB Pro card.

Coach Videsh Sookram, who is with the chiselled men in Santo Domingo, stated both did exceptionally well and noted that Ramsammy had “lots of crowd appeal.”

Both Bodybuilders missed the Central American and Caribbean Championship earlier this year after initially being named to compete.

The National Sports Commission and B.M. Soat Auto Sales supported the athletes in their journey to Santo Domingo.
