October COVID-19 death toll moves to 100; 66 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health has reported that two women, aged 62 and 60 years old, died on Monday after they were infected with SARS- CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease COVID-19.

The 62-year-old man was from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); her vaccination status is unknown. The 60-year-old woman was from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and she was unvaccinated.

With these new deaths, the death toll for October has increased to 100 while a total of 899 deaths have been recorded since March 11, 2020.

Meanwhile, a total of 66 new infections have been recorded over a 24-hour period. The total number of infections recorded in Guyana since March last year has increased to 35,170.

The new cases were recorded in: Region Two (10 new cases), Region Three (three cases), Region Four (28 cases), Region Five (one cases), Region Six (18 cases), Region Eight (five cases) and Region Nine (one case).

Additionally, there are 23 patients receiving treatment in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 76 individuals in institutional isolation, 3,239 people in home isolation and four people in institutional quarantine.

Importantly, a total of 30,933 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
