The Ministry of Agriculture signed two contracts valued at $20.6 million for agro-processing equipment to be used at the new facilities at Fort Wellington in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and at Watooka in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Western Scientific Limited was awarded a $16.1 million contract to supply the equipment for the Fort Wellington facility; the equipment will be used to convert fresh, raw produce into processed food and products.
In Watooka, Meditron Inc. received a contract worth $4.5 million to supply similar equipment. These projects fall under the purview of the new Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC).
Previously, the new GMC signed a contract with DBL Contracting and General Supplies to the tune of $22 million for the construction of the processing facility at Fort Wellington. Anil Lalsa Construction was awarded a $9.6 million contract to build a brand new packaging and agro-processing facility at Watooka.
