A 33-year-old pedal cyclist succumbed to injuries at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital early on Tuesday, three days after he was involved in an accident along the Chesney Housing Scheme Access Road in Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Ramesh Approo of Chesney Housing Scheme. Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred on Saturday last at about 17:20hrs.
According to the report, a motor lorry GJJ 7885 was proceeding south on the eastern side of the road when the driver alleged that he stopped and while reversing he collided with Ramesh.
Police said a pillion rider also received injuries.
Approo was first taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital; he was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was placed in the ICU.
He suffered a broken pelvis and a punctured kidney. Police said the driver of the motor lorry was arrested.
