Mahaica man dies in accident with speeding minibus

A 61-year-old driver of Novar, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has been arrested in connection with the death of pedal cyclist 47-year-old Seebaran Dhankumar of Mahaica, ECD, who was struck down on the Strangroen Public Road, Mahaica on Tuesday night.
According to a police report, Surujpaul Bissoon was driving minibus BTT 3832 east along the road allegedly at a fast rate. Bissoon alleged that he saw Dhankumar riding on the northern side of the road but he (Dhankumar) suddenly changed directions and ended up in his path.
The driver applied brakes to avoid a collision, but despite his efforts, he collided with the pedal cyclist at around 17:59hrs.
Dhankumar was pronounced at the Mahaicony Public Hospital.
