A 16-year-old boy has reportedly confessed to the armed robbery on a 53-year-old overseas-based Guyanese woman and her son – a 31-year-old security guard.
The teenager and a 34-year-old taxi driver of No. 72 Village Corentyne Berbice were arrested in connection with the robbery. Police Headquarters reported that a third suspect is currently being sought.
The woman and her son of No. 73 Village, were reportedly robbed of their jewellery, smartphone, a pair of sneakers and a backpack by two men armed with a gun on Sunday night.
The bandits also stole a rental car (PTT 864) which was being driven by the son. The car was found abandoned at No. 69 Village on Monday at about 06:00hrs.
Police had reported that the robbery occurred at about 01:20hrs on Sunday.
According to the police, the mother and son had left to attend a wake house at about 21:00hrs on Sunday. The News Room understands that the son dropped his mother off after the wake and returned to collect some other people.
Upon his return, he saw the two bandits leaving the premises and “he ran and left the car with the keys in the ignition,” the police reported.
