Double-murder accused nabbed in minibus at Onderneeming

Kapildeo Gangadin, who escaped from the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) on Thursday morning, was recaptured by police near Onderneeming on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD)

According to information from the Guyana Prison Service, Gangadin was in a minibus proceeding to Parika on the East Bank Essequibo. Acting on information received, however, police reportedly launched a road-block operation at Onderneeming Public Road. This resulted in the capture of the man.

He was taken into custody and has been interviewed by officers of the Guyana Police Force.

Gangadin of Annandale, on the East Coast of Demerara, was charged with the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Ganesh ‘Chris’ Persaud on October 15, 2021, and the January 18, 2020 murder of 24-year-old fisherman Mukesh Mangra known as ‘Paul’.

Gangadin appeared in the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court on October 20 and was not required to plea to the two counts of murder.
