Man, 23, dies after losing control of motorcycle, crashing into trench

Kevin Peters, 23, a motorcyclist from Supply, Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) died on Sunday after he lost control of his speeding motorcycle and crashed into a trench.

According to a police report, Peters and a 20-year-old Kevin Ashley, the pillion rider from Helena #1 at Mahaica, ECD, were proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Drill Old Road, Mahaicony at a fast rate around 20:50 hrs on Sunday.

While attempting to make a right turn, however, Peters lost control of motorcycle #CK 8330, and ended up in a nearby trench on the western side of the road. After the accident, the two men were taken out of the trench by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital. Peters was unconscious and Ashley was conscious.

While being treated, however, Peters succumbed; Ashley is being kept for observation.

Further investigations are underway.
