PMTC lads win first-ever Power Zone Volleyball Championship

The lads of Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) emerged champions of the first-ever Power Zone Volleyball competition, organised by North Nation Inc. on Sunday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Led on the sidelines by the experienced coach and former national player Levi Nedd, PMTC came up against Eagles Volleyball Club in the championship game, which turned out to be a thrilling and competitive finale.

Eagles drew first blood with a close 31-29 win in the first set, but PMTC came back strong to level proceedings with a 25-20 success in the second.

Eagles then soared ahead 2-1 with a 25-20 victory in the third set to set up an exciting end to the day’s competition.

PMTC however, had enough left in the tank to pull off championship success, winning the last two sets by comfortable margins 25-14, 15-9 to take the G$100,000 top prize.

In the final, PMTC were spearheaded by Shemroy Ross (12 points), Ronaldo Bobb (nine), Andy Rohoman (six) and Devendra Latchman (six), while Eagles were led by Adriel Moore (15), Kristoff Shepperd (14) and Trevon McRae (12).

At the presentation ceremony, Shemroy Ross was adjudged MVP and Best Outside Hitter, Ronaldo Bobb Best Blocker, Akeem Bowlin Best Libero, Levi Nedd Jr. Best Setter and Daniel Joseph Most Improved Player.

Eagles had to settle for the runner-up spot after a hard-fought final

Game One: Eagles Volleyball Club defeated Castrol Strikers 25-19, 25-20

Game Two: Port Mourant Training Centre was declared winner Young Achievers, after it was discovered at the completion of the second set that Achievers had fielded a player not on the official list. They subsequently withdrew from the competition. Achievers had won the first set 25-21 and Port Mourant won the second 25-18.

Game Three: Port Mourant Training Centre defeated Castrol Strikers 25-12, 25-21

Final: Port Mourant Training Centre defeated Eagles 29-31, 25-20, 20-25, 25-14, 15-9.
