West Bank family beaten, robbed by gunmen
A Recht Door Zee, West Bank Demerara family remains in a traumatised state after five bandits – armed with handguns and cutlasses – invaded their house, beat and robbed them on Sunday night.
Police Headquarters revealed that the bandits escaped with an iPhone 7 valued at $105,000; $60,000 in cash and a cellphone valued at $25,000; the victims are a 56-year-old housewife, a 23-year-old female and a 20-year-old male.
According to the police, the young man was outside on his phone when he saw two men jumping their western fence; he said one of the men pulled out a handgun and started to beat him while the other suspect hit him in his face with a suspected handgun causing him to become unconscious.
The 23-year-old female who was inside heard a male voice informing her not to move. The perpetrator pointed a handgun at her and demanded money; he then cuffed her to the face causing her to fall to the ground.
Two other perpetrators with firearms joined the other three and one of them hit the housewife on her right hand with the firearm. It is alleged that the suspects then took the housewife to her room and ransacked it for valuables.
The bandits then escaped by jumping the western fence after which they discharged a round in the air.
