Deported businessman allegedly caught with ganja in home

Avery Cummings, a businessman who lives at Swan Ville on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway, was reportedly nabbed with several parcels of cannabis in his house on Tuesday.

According to a report from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), an operation was conducted in Swan Ville based on information received.

During the operation, several parcels of ‘creepy weed’ (a foreign type of marijuana) weighing over 5.3 kilograms (kg), several zip lock bags containing cannabis and cannabis seeds amounting to 3.68 grams and 3.5 grams of Hashish (a type of compressed cannabis) were found.

Consequently, he was arrested and escorted to the CANU Headquarters in Georgetown.

Importantly, the CANU report stated that Cummings was previously deported to Guyana from the United States of America (USA) in 2009 after being convicted for trafficking in narcotics.
