Woman busted trying to smuggle ganja in ‘blue soap’ into Lusignan prison

Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman of Cummings Park, Sophia, Georgetown after she was caught trying to smuggle a quantity of marijuana in several bars of blue soap into the Lusignan prison on the East Coast of Demerara.

According to the police, the woman who was arrested on Monday at around 12:39hrs, was taking the items for an inmate when she was subjected to a search.

Prison Officers noticed the soap during the search and upon closer examination, eight plastic parcels with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found.

Police said the woman was told of the allegation, cautioned and arrested before being taken to the Vigilance Police Station.

The illicit items were weighed and amounted to 22 grams. She remains in custody assisting with the investigations.
