16-year-old alleged bandit shot dead by ‘plain clothes’ cop in Stabroek Market
An alleged bandit who attempted to rob a woman of her gold chain on Wednesday afternoon was shot dead by her husband who is a member of the Guyana Police Force.
Dead is 16-year-old Sydel Bourne of Agricola, East Bank Demerara. Police Headquarters revealed that the attempted robbery and shooting occurred at around 14:20hrs at the Stabroek Market Square in Georgetown.
Police investigations so far revealed that a policeman, who was in “plain clothes” and armed with his service pistol, was shopping in the area accompanied by his reputed wife who was wearing a gold chain at the time.
It is alleged that they were attacked by Bourne, who was armed with a knife and accompanied by two other male suspects, who attempted to snatch the gold chain.
The policeman’s reputed wife put up a resistance, but the perpetrators were able to burst the chain off her neck. According to the police, one of the bandits told Bourne to stab her during which the policeman discharged a round in their direction hitting Bourne to his body. The other two suspects managed to escape.
Bourne was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Break the chain off her neck, not burst the chain.
