Britton’s campaign in Ecuador Open ends with Round-of-16 defeat


Guyanese table tennis player Shemar Britton lost his Round-of-16 match in the Men’s Singles of the Ecuador International Open on Thursday.

After wins in Rounds One and Two, the former Caribbean Under-21 champion was riding high on confidence, but he lost to Manush Utpalbhai Shah of India 4-1.

Shah took the first three sets 11-7, 15-13, 11-5 before Britton pulled things back by winning the fourth set 11-7. Shah closed out the match with an 11-5 scoreline in the fifth set of the best-of-seven game.

Britton had defeated Ignacio Paul Cedeno Ponce of Ecuador 4-1 in the first round, and followed up with victory over Rodrigo Ali Izaguirre Vigo of Peru 4-2 in the second.
