Ranks of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday arrested the main suspect in the murder of Dr Colin Roach who was found in a pool of blood at his Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown office on Tuesday night.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed to the News Room that the man – who was a close friend of the doctor – was arrested at 05:00hrs at the ‘back track’ route in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) attempting to flee to Suriname.
“He is currently cooperating with the investigators,” the source told the News Room.
The arrest took place just hours after police on the West Bank of Demerara recovered the missing Audi SUV belonging to the murdered doctor on Thursday morning.
The News Room reported that the vehicle was found abandoned on the Schoonard Public Road, West Bank Demerara; the car’s license plate PXX 4000 and keys are missing.
The source also indicated that the entire vehicle “appeared to be wiped down” with an unknown solution to remove any trace of evidence that may have been left behind.
Nevertheless, the News Room understands that detectives still dusted the vehicle with hopes of discovering a finger print/s.
Dr Roach’s two office assistants who were arrested on Tuesday remain in police custody. The News Room understands that detectives will seek an extension for the detention of both employees.
The two males reside in the same building as the doctor’s office. One of the employees told police that he found the doctor lying motionless on his back in a pool of blood in the examination area of the office.
Police were summoned and a wound that appears to be from blunt trauma was seen on the left side of his forehead and a COVID-19 vaccination book was placed neatly on the doctor’s stomach.
Dr. Roach, who resided at Windsor Estates, East Bank Demerara, was also the former Chairman of the National Sports Commission. It is suspected that he was murdered between 15:00hrs and 22:20hrs.
He owned and operated the International Medical Clinic located in a three-storied building at Lot 111 Duke Street Kingston. According to the police report, the clinic was opened for business between 07:00hrs and 15:00hrs.
After the clinic closed, one of the office assistants went out while the other retired to his living quarters in the top flat, leaving the doctor in his office on the middle flat.
It is further alleged that about 20:00hrs, a man was seen exiting the building but he returned about seven minutes later and re-entered the clinic. At about 22:18hrs, the vehicle belonging to the doctor drove out of Duke Street heading north.
It was further observed that the lights in the doctor’s office were still on which prompted one of the office assistants to call the doctor on his cell phone but he got no answer. The other office assistant was alerted and using the office keys, he went to turn off the said lights when he discovered the doctor dead.
