Man drowns after boat capsizes in Pomeroon River

A popular boat builder of Jacklow, Upper Pomeroon died on Sunday after the boat he was operating capsized in the vicinity of Charity Waterfront in the Pomeroon River.

Dead is Chris Williams, a father of two; the incident occurred around 17:30hrs.

Police claimed that Williams was under the influence of alcohol and was engaged in a “boat show” when he lost control and crashed into a bushy area.

Persons who witnessed the incident immediately went to his assistance but he had already fallen into the water. Williams’ body was later recovered and he was officially pronounced dead at the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital.

“He drove off and we heard the loud sounds, when we searched, we weren’t finding him, then we found him below the boat,” an eyewitness said.

The body is at the Charity Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
