Tuschen bar owner robbed, chopped; bandit drops loot while scaling fence
A cutlass-wielding bandit attacked a 40-year-old businessman on Thursday night and stole his iPhone 6 and $30,000 in cash, however, while escaping, the bandit dropped the items.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 20:30hrs at Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.
The businessman, who operates a bar in the community, told police that he was in the process of closing up when the suspect walked in and said he wanted to “buy something to drink.”
When the businessman replied that he was closed, the suspect reportedly pulled out a cutlass from his waist and attacked the man. Police said the businessman was chopped to his right hand.
The suspect then pushed his hands into the businessman’s pocket and took the phone and cash. While scaling a fence in the backyard, the suspect dropped the stolen items.
The businessman then raised an alarm and the police were contacted. Police said the businessman was treated for his injury at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
