Massive fire at Eve Leary contained by firefighters
Firefighters have been able to contain the massive fire that started next to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The fire started on Saturday afternoon and destroyed the Police Office of Professional Responsibility. It also forced police officers to attempt to salvage volumes of files from the DPP’s office.
While speaking to reporters at the scene, Commissioner of Police (ag) Nigel Hoppie said that the fire appeared to have started in the area that houses ranks who stay at the Police headquarters.
He also highlighted that all of the documents from the DPP’s office were removed to protect them from the fire or water damage.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, who was also on the scene, stated that an investigation into the matter will be launched.
