Dr. Shiwnandan’s Clinic, located on Thomas Street, Georgetown, has become the ninth company to be certified by Global Compliance Service Guyana Inc. (GCS) with the ISO 9001:2015 Standard for the Provision of Complete Medical Certificates for Oil and Gas and other seafarers.

In a simple ceremony commemorating the achievement on Monday, Dr. Ravindra Shiwnandan attributed his success to his hardworking staffers at the Clinic and his wife, Michelle Shiwnandan.

Chief Executive Officer of GCS and lead auditor, Candelle Bostwick, was present at the occasion.

Shiwnandan explained that the Clinic has been providing medical examinations for seafarers employed in the oil and gas industry, but he decided to add further to the quality service he supplies to keep in line with the progressing sector.

“We understand that the ISO Standards will be the normal standards in the world of business and so we have decided to pursue the 9001 Certification…and we are happy that myself and staff with the guidance of Mrs. Bostwick and all the members from GCS have been able to put all of the effort into reaching all of the milestones that were necessary for us to be certified,” Dr. Shiwnandan commented.

According to GCS, companies that have been certified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard have established a Quality Management System, which provides a framework for delivering consistent quality products and services as defined within its scope of certification.

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for a quality management system (QMS) developed and published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

This certification provides a model for companies of all types and sizes to improve internal systems, build quality management systems and operate effectively at different levels, including the ability to focus on customer requirements and constantly find ways to become resilient and sustainable.

CEO Bostwick lauded Dr. Shiwnandan for the move, noting that more local businesses are recognising the importance of quality management and improvement.

She said: “We have certified several companies for this year, and we have some more in the process and this tells us that local businesses are recognising the importance of quality and meeting cost requirements, because certification provides that credibility to your process.”

Dr. Shiwnandan’s Clinic Inc. offers general medicine, ultrasound, endoscopy and laboratory services, which it has successfully performed for more than 25 years.
