Enterprise man dies in early morning fire

A 54-year-old man of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara died in a fire early on Thursday.

Dead is Suresh Gooldchand. The Guyana Fire Service reported that the fire started at about 03:40hrs at Market Street, Enterprise. Goolchand lived with his brother, Shwavash in a wooden flat house.

The Fire Service said the building and everything inside were destroyed. Two vehicles located on the western side of the building were also severely damaged. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Firefighters along with an ambulance and ranks of the Guyana Police Force responded to the scene.

“The Guyana Fire Service would like to express sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of Shwavash Goolchand,” the Fire Service stated.

The Fire Service continues to urge citizens to equip their homes with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers and to be careful when cooking or using electrical appliances.
