Junior Pan Am Games: Wiltshire wins; defeat for Carvalhal

Guyana had mixed fortunes on the opening morning of the Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, with squash players Shomari Wiltshire and Samuel Ince-Carvalhal being the first Guyanese in action on Friday.

Wiltshire made a winning start in the Men’s Singles, defeating his Venezuelan opponent Sebastian Ricardo Araujo Ruiz 3-0, but Ince-Carvalhal lost by a similar margin to Jeremias Gonzalo Azana Corjeno of Argentina.

Wiltshire won 11-4, 11-2, 11-2, while Ince-Carvalhal lost 3-11, 7-11, 5-11.

Later on Friday, Guyana’s Badminton representatives will take to the court for the first time.

Akili Haynes will take on Christopher Alexander Martinez Salvador in the Men’s Singles and Priyanna Ramdhani will face Natalie Chi of the USA in the Women’s Singles.
