Police have arrested the owner of a heavily tinted green car that is suspected to be involved in several robberies on the West Coast of Demerara.

The latest robbery occurred at 06:45hrs on Friday at ‘Cone Shop’ street, De Willem. Police said a 21-year-old banker was walking along the street heading to work when the suspect drove alongside him in motorcar HC 7923.

As the suspect approached the victim, he stretched out his hands from the driver’s side window and snatched a handbag valued at $23,000; a lunch bag valued at $2,000; a wallet valued at $3,000.00; $25,000 in cash and his ID card.

The driver escaped and the victim reported the matter to the Leonora Police Station. Investigations by the police found that the number plate of the car was fake and as a result, the owner of the motor vehicle was contacted and is presently assisting with the investigation.

Meanwhile, it is suspected that it is the same driver who robbed a man on the Ruimzeight public road at around 07:00hrs Friday- about 15 minutes after committing the act at De Welliem.
