The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) on Sunday hosted its five-team Female Volleyball Festival at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, with Pakuri Warriors emerging champions of the one-day tournament.

Pakuri Warriors defeated Castrol Strikers in the championship contest, winning 25-22, 14-25, 15-13.

The other teams in the competition were Berbice Females, Premier Eagles and Laluni. Berbice Strikers won the third place game.

Camiza La Cruz of Pakuri Warriors emerged as the Most Valuable Player and Best Spiker of the day. Her MVP prizes of a trophy and G$10,000 were sponsored by Trophy Stall and Heavy Equipment Technical Training Institute.

Alianna Charles of Castrol Strikers was the Best Setter, Sunita Causeway of Pakuri Warriors won the Most Senior Player prize and Tiea Isaacs of Berbice Females was adjudged Most Promising Player.

The GVF said the aim of the tournament was to select a senior squad to commence training for future events. It also served as a catalyst for the formation of an elite academy, which will be convened by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

“The national team has been shortlisted and will be announced later,” the GVF said.
