Two men found with GPL meters, wires arrested

Police on the West Coast of Demerara have arrested two men who were found with Guyana Power and Light (GPL) electrical wires and meters in their possession.

It is suspected that the men, aged 58 and 33, were stealing electricity.

The men were arrested separately during a house-to-house investigation operation conducted by the police and GPL on Sunday.

The first arrest was at La Jalousie. Police Headquarters reported that ranks received information and visited the home of the first suspect.

“The suspect was questioned as it relates to having GPL properties in his possession, but he did not give any reasonable explanation of having same in his possession,” police said.

The second suspect was arrest at his home at Cornelia Ida. A quantity of GPL wire and a meter were found in his possession.

He also could not provide the police with any reasonable explanation, and was immediately arrested.
