P&P Insurance Brokers and Consultants Limited, a long-time supporter of sport in Guyana, has responded positively to a request from the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) for sponsorship for Class 10 Para Table Tennis player, Gibran Hussein Sarfaraz.

Sarfaraz will be participating in the Para Copa Costa Rica Table Tennis Championship in Costa Rica, scheduled for December 8-13, 2021.

This championship provides Guyana with the opportunity to showcase its Para player in addition to allowing the Association to promote and expose the country’s young players.

In brief remarks, Accounts Executive Urmila Shamsundar said that P&P was very happy to again respond positively to a request for sponsorship and wish Sarfaraz every success.

General Secretary of the Guyana Table Tennis Association, Mr. Linden Johnson, who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Association, thanked Shamsundar and P&P Insurance Brokers for their generous support.

Sarfaraz is a high-level Paralympic athlete, who has represented Guyana at the Pan American Paralympic Games Lima 2019, USA Paralympic Open and other key Paralympic championships.

However, he was unable to attend any events in the last 18 months, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Despite these setbacks, Gibran has remained motivated and very passionate about the sport of Table Tennis, continuing to train and making significant sacrifice,” the GTTA said.

“With the restart of competitions occurring globally in the sport and world ranking becoming a major factor in determining qualification for key events given the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become critical that our association is able to have our players participate in key competitions and training camps,” the GTTA added.

Sarfaraz will be up against competitors from USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, Spain, Great Britain, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Russia, Peru, El Salvador, Chile and Costa Rica.

The GTTA added, “Gibran is an ITTF a Level Two coach, who volunteers of his time and effort in developing the sport in Guyana, teaching and coaching young athletes in schools and depressed communities. A winner of three National Paralympic Sports awards, Gibran represents the face of Guyana’s Paralympic programme and activities. His participation gives us the impetus to truly market and motivate many other athletes to participate in Para Sports and to aspire to the highest levels in Guyana.”
