Guyana nears 1,000 COVID deaths

Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has increased to 998 with the addition of one new fatality – an unvaccinated 32-year-old man of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that the young man died on December 2; he is the first death for the month thus far.

Meanwhile, 77 cases were recorded from 1,342 tests.

These new cases were recorded in Region One (four cases), Region Three (15 cases), Region Four (20 cases), Region Six (35 cases) and Region 10 (two cases).

There are also 18 patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 54 are people in institutional isolation, 1,067 are people in home isolation and two people in institutional quarantine.

Meanwhile, a total of 35,891 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
