A 19-year-old mechanic was on Friday released on $550,000 bail for allegedly stealing a man’s 212 motorcar.

Justin DeSantos of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara appeared before City Magistrate Dylon Bess and denied that on October 23, 2021, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown he stole the car valued at $1.3 million, property of Campion Chichester.

DeSantos’ attorney told the court that his client was asked by Chichester to fix the vehicle, but the police prosecutor told the court that DeSantos gave conflicting addresses to the police which differs from the one given in court.

Additionally, DeSantos is currently under investigation for seven simple larceny matters at the Turkeyen Police Station.  The prosecutor objected to DeSantos being released on the bail citing the nature and penalty attached to the charge.

Magistrate Bess, however, released DeSantos on $550,000 bail on the condition that he lodges his passport at the court and reports every Friday at the Diamond/Grove Police Station.

The case is adjourned until January 13, 2021.

In 2019, DeSantos along with three others were slapped with a series of charges for allegedly stealing vehicles in a carjacking ring at Kuru Kururu, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
