Guyana’s COVID death toll passes 1,000; 41 new cases

A total of 1,001 people have reportedly died from the disease COVID-19 since March 2020, according to information provided by the Ministry of Health.

On Friday, the Health Ministry reported that there were three additional COVID-19 deaths. Those who died are:

  1. A 65-year-old fully vaccinated man from Region 10 (Upper Demerara- Berbice) who died on December 3
  2. A 59-year-old unvaccinated man from Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam) who died on December 2
  3. A 70-year-old fully vaccinated man from Region 10 who died on November 30.

With these new deaths, there have been three COVID-19 deaths recorded during the month of December so far while November’s death toll has increased to 67.

Meanwhile, another 41 individuals were infected with SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus virus that causes the disease COVID-19. These new infections were recorded after 648 tests were done. With these new cases, the total number of confirmed infections has increased to 37,825

These new cases were recorded in: Region One (three cases), Region Two (two cases), Region Three (four cases), Region Four (16 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (four cases) and Region 10 (six cases).

There are also 17 patients receiving care in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 63 people in institutional isolation and 963 people in home isolation.

Meanwhile, a total of 36,024 people have recovered after they were infected with COVID-19.
